"Wake me up when September Ends" is a song by the U.S. rock band Green Day and was released as a single of their album "American Idiot" in September 2001. The song was dedicated to Billie Joe Armstrong´s father, a jazz musician and truck driver, who had died of cancer in 1982. The then ten year old devastated Joe Armstrong had told his mother after the funeral: "Wake me up, when September ends".The song reached No. 6 in the U.S. (Green Days´second Top 10 single), No. 8 in Canada and the U.K., and No. 13 in Australia.
The video ends in emphasizing the pain and heartache of losing ones dear due to war. The song became a tribute song to the victims of Hurricane Katrina and was performed live before the first game in the New Orleans Superdome after Katrina.
