Everybody Hurts is a song by REM and was released on their 1992 album "Automatic for the People", and as a single in 1993. It reached No. 29 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, No. 7 on the U.K. Singles Chart and No. 3 on the French Chart. According to the band the lyrics are so atypically straight-forward because they were aimed at teenagers not necessarily with a college degree. In 1995 the British listening service The Samaritans launched a U.K, press advertising campaign in response to the high suicide rate amongst young people that consisted solely of the song´s lyrics plus the charity´s hotline number.
