Stille Nacht (Silent Night) is a traditional Christmas carol. Stille Nacht was written by Franz Guber, and the lyrics were composed by Josef Mohr. Stille Nacht was composed in 1818, though the lyrics were written two years earlier than that. It appears that Franz Gruber approached Josef Mohr with the finished lyrics, asking him to write a melody for them. The tune was first performed by the two in 1818 on Christmas Eve in the St. Nikolaus Kirche (St. Nicholas church) in Oberndorf, Salzburg. Since then Sitlle Nacht has been translated into over 100 languages, and remains one of the most popular Christmas carols of all time. Included below you will find our Brass Quintet arrangements of Stille Nacht.
