The band was formed in the 1970s after Chris Difford put an advert in a sweetshop window for someone to join him in forming a bad. Influences of The Kinks and Glenn Miller were important. Glenn Tilbrook was the only person to respond.

They struggled to get a decent name, however that may be defined. They had a few quite appalling ones and finally settled on the easy to remember name of Squeeze. This was allegedly taken from the album of the same name the The Velvet Underground had recorded in 1973, to much critical disdain.

Also appearing in the early days was the renowned Jools Holland who was a friend of Glenn's and mesmerised Chris with his charisma and Boogie Woogie piano style.

Other famous stars to have performed with Squeeze were Paul Carrack and Elvis Costello.

Chris and Dave have had many falling outs over the years but eventually have sorted their differences every time and reformed. They put their ability to do this down to maturing and having very different personalities allowing them to have separate personal lives without trying to sustain a "forced" friendship.
