"Santa Clause is Coming to Town" is a Christmas song written by John Frederick Coots and Haven Gillespie and was first performed on Eddie Cantor´s radio show in 1934. It became an immediate hit - 100,000 orders for the sheet music came in the following day and altogether 400,000 were sold by Christmas. The first recorded version was by banjoist Harry Reser and his band in October 1934; the trombonist Tommy Dorsey recorded it with his Big Band in September 1935 and numerous other artists have covered this traditional Christmas standard up to now. Franklin Bass produced a lively 60 minute TV special in 1970 that is based on the song, with Fred Astaire narrating the story of Santa Clause. Celin Dion recorded a French version of the song "Pere Noel arrive ce soir" which was released on her "Celin Dion chante Noel" album in 1981. Maria Carey recorded her version for her album "Merry Christmas" in 1994 and again in 2005.
