Lady Madonna is a Lennon/McCartney composition. McCartney wrote the music and Lennon contributed part of the lyrics. The track was not initially released as part of an album, but purely as a single (in March 1968). The piece has a strong Boogie-Woogie feel and so it is no surprise that several Jazz saxophonoists play on the recording, including the British jazz legend Ronnie Scott. Moreover, the intro of Lady Madonna has striking similarities to the intro of "Bad Penny Blues" by British trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton. Both Elvis Presley and Fats Domino recorded their own cover versions of the piece. The first verse is:

Wonder how you manage to make ends meet
