Isaac Watts is noted as being the "Father of English Hymnody". He was the first prolific and popular English hymnwriter, and he was credited with approximately 750 hymns. Many of his hymns remain in active use today and have been translated into many languages including French and Spanish.

It will be no surprise to learn that he was pastor. He worked at a large independent chapel in London, and he helped train preachers. He was keener on eduction and scholarship than preaching any particular sect and was therefore a renowned Nonconformist.

Watts was quite a writer. He a textbook about logic which was very well received. It was called "Logic, or The Right Use of Reason in the Enquiry After Truth With a Variety of Rules to Guard Against Error in the Affairs of Religion and Human Life, as well as in the Sciences". Which is a very long title!
