Hark! The Herald Angels Sing is a Christmas carol. The music of the song was originally written by Felix Mendelssohn as part of the cantata Festgesang ("Festival Song"). The lyrics of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing were written by Charles Wesley. Tom Lehrer satirizes Hark! The Herald Angels Sing in his tune "A Christmas Carol":

"Hark! The Herald Tribune sings,"
"Advertising wondrous things!"

Here are the original words - though these have been altered over the centuries:

Hark! the angels sing sing! Glory to our newborn King!
Peace on Earth and mercy mild! God and sinners reconciled!
Joyful all ye nations rise! Join the triumph of the skies!
With angelic hosts proclaim "Christ is born in Bethlehem!
Hark! the herald angels sing! Glory to our newborn King!
