Habanera is an Aria from the opera Carmen by the French composer Georges Bizet. The tune gets its name from a genre of music found in Cuba, which is called “Habanera”. The rhythm displayed in the bass line of this piece is typical of a tune in the Habanera style. Furthermore the Habanera from Carmen is also known by the opening line: "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle”. The Habanera has one of the most recognisable in Western Music, due to its continually descending melodic line.
