Go Down, Moses is an African-American spirtual/gospel song thought to have originated in the 19th century. Go Down, Moses probably comes from the slave church tradition. It was first referred to in a letter to the American Missionary Association from the Rev. Mr. Lockwood, dated Sept. 4, 1861.

 1. When Israel was in Egypt´s Land:
 Let my people go.
Oppress´d so hard they could not stand,
 Let my people go.

Refrain:
 Go down Moses
 ´way down in Egypt´s land
 Tell ol´ Pharaoh,
 Let my peoples go.
