Richie and Ross recorded the song for Motown and it was used as the theme in the film "Endless Love". In 1981 it was released as a single from the film´s soundtrack. Following the film´s success the song became the second biggest selling single of the year in the USA and stayed at No.1 on Billboard`s Hot 100 for nine weeks in 1981; in the UK it reached No.7. The song was also used in the movie "Beethoven" and "Happy Gilmore". Billboard magazine called it the greatest song duet of all time.
