It was released as a single in March 2003. Clocks was record of the year at the 2004 Grammy Awards and is one of Coldplay´s most successfull songs. It reached No. 9 in the UK Singles Chart and No. 29 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song is arranged around a repeating piano melody plus drums and bass guitar. In fact, the song´s piano progression became the band´s signature creation. It´s theme includes contrast, urgency and contradicting emotion. The tune has been a quasi-signature tune for Coldplay, the consistent piano pattern having hypnotic qualities. Clocks is one of those tunes that is known not for it's melody, but for its melodic riff. The tune received the Record of the Year Award at the 2004 Grammys.
