| The words to the Jacobite song, Skye Boat Song, are by Sir Harold Boulton, Bart., 1884. The first half of the tune is said to be an old sea shanty; the other half is traditionally attributed to Miss Annie MacLeod.
Charles Edward Stewart, the Young Pretender, was defeated by the Duke of Cumberland on Culloden Moor in 1746. Aided by Flora MacDonald, Bonnie Prince Charlie escaped to the island of Skye. He was later taken by a French vessel to Morlaix on the coast of Bretagne.
Level 1.5 has a more sophisticated left hand than Level 1.
Level 2 is a chordal four-part harmonisation.
Level 2.5 has a note-a-beat left hand.
Level 3 has very floating harmonies, due to the use of slash-chords.
Level 3.5 has a flowing left hand - like the waves of the sea. You can hear a live recording of this by clicking on the soundfile on the right.
When you play back the sheeet music, the system uses a midi interpretation. This gives a good idea of the tune but the mp3 file provides a perfomance standard version.
