Sarabande, from Suite No.4 in D Minor, HWV 447 Sheet Music
Artist and Writer: Georg Friedrich Händel (also known as George Frideric Frederick Handel) |
Sarabande, from "Suite No.4 in D Minor" (HWV 447) is a composition by the German-born composer George Frideric Handel (Georg Friederich Händel). A Sarabande is a slow dance in triple time. Quite often beats 2 and 3 of a bar are tied, giving the sarabande a very distinctive feel. This rhythm may have occurred in accordance with a corresponding dance move (dragging of the feet). In his film “Barry Lyndon” director Stanley Kubrick uses Handel’s Sarabande. In the 1990s the piece was famously used in a very effective Levi’s jeans advert: a couple were seen running through walls, the music offering a poignant backdrop for the motion-less pictures.
