Red River Valley Sheet Music
Artist and Writer: Traditional |
Red River Valley is believed to have been written by James Kerrigan in
1896. The verses have been changed along with some of the words to
adapt it to a cowboy's lament. Depicting the sorrow of a local girl, or
woman, as her soldier lover prepares to return to Ontario. Red River
Valley is a popular American folk song.
From this valley they say you are going
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile
For they say you are taking the sunshine
That has brightened our path for a while
Come and sit by my side if you love me
Do not hasten to bid me adieu
But remember the Red River Valley
And the cowboy who loved you so true
