Moonlight Sonata (First Movement, Opus 27 Nr. 2) Sheet Music
also known as Mondschein Sonate Mondscheinsonate Klaviersonate Nr. 14 Opus 27 Nr. 2 Sheet Music Artist and Writer: Ludwig van Beethoven (also known as Bethofen, Bethoven, Beethofen) |
Beethoven wrote the Moonlight Sonata (Sonata No. 14 Opus 27 No. 2) for the Countess Giulietta Guicciardi, one of several female piano students Beethoven was to fall in love with. Unfortunately the beauty of the piece did not have the desired outcome (marriage), as Beethoven was to remain a bachelor all his life. The title Moonlight Sonata only became popular after Beethoven's death, after the music critic and poet Ludwig Rellstab had likened the piece to the reflected moonlight on Lake Lucerne. The piece itself is divided into three parts, with the most famous first part represented here.
