It Came Upon A Midnight Clear is an American Christmas carol. The
lyrics were originally written in 1849 by Edmund Sears, an American
pastor. The English version of the melody is said to have originated
from a piece by the composer Arthur Sullivan, though this is contested.
There is a different version of It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, which is
often known as “It Came Upon THE Midnight Clear", which is usually sung
in North America.

It came upon a midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth,
To touch their harps of gold:
"Peace on the earth, goodwill to men
From heavens all gracious King!"
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the angels sing.
