Grandfather's Clock Sheet Music
also known as My Grandfather's Clock Sheet Music Artist and Writer: Henry C. Work |
Grandfather's Clock (a.k.a My Grandfather's Clock) is a popular song
written by the American composer Henry C. Work. There are two different
stories about the genesis about this clock, but in essence both
theories talk about a real-life case where a grandfather’s clock
stopped once the owner had died. It is also possible that the term
“grandfather clock” (longcase clocks) was coined with this tune. The
sheet music has a sweet and wistful feel to it, something that is
mirrored in the lyrics (the first verse is shown here):
My grandfather's clock
Was too large for the shelf,
So it stood ninety years on the floor;
It was taller by half
Than the old man himself,
Though it weighed not a pennyweight more.
It was bought on the morn
Of the day that he was born,
And was always his treasure and pride;
