Cockles And Mussels Sheet Music
also known as Molly Malone, Ruacain is Sliogáin, Mol Ní Mhaoileoin Sheet Music often mis-spelt as Cockels And Mussels Sheet Music Artist and Writer: Traditional |
Cockles And Mussels is a traditional Irish song thought to have
been written and composed by James Yorkston although his published
version is probably preceded by an unknown version from a Scottish
company as the publication refers to an "Edinburgh Firm". What seems
indisputable though is that this, Dublin's unofficial anthem and indeed
one of the favourite songs of Ireland, was in fact written by a
Scotsman.
But who was Molly Malone, the heroine of the song?
Much speculation about her, and her chosen vocation, exists but it
remains just that - speculation. Amongst these, the most popular is
that she was a street fish merchant during the day and a street woman
during the night.
The Cockles and Mussels sheet music typifies
the straight-forward but enjoyable, reliable steady tempo of folk music
making it easier to sing along to.
