Away In A Manger is a traditional Christmas tune. There are
two entirely different versions of the melody. Both versions share the
same lyrics, one Version of Away In A Manger is in 4/4 time, the other
in 3/4 time however, meaning that the two pieces have a completely
different feel to them. The version of Away In A Manger represented
here is the less well known version in 3/4. The composer of both
versions of Away In A Manger are unknown, although the third
stanza seems to have been added by Dr. John McFarland in 1904.
Occasionally the tune is attributed to Martin Luther, though this
appears to be
erroneous. The confusion may have arisen out of the fact that Away In A
Manger was subtitled "Luther's Cradle Hymn" in the 1885 publication.
