The Star-Spangled Banner is the official anthem of the Unted States of America. Author of the Star-Spangled Banner was Francis Scott Key. As a prisoner of war, Key witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the American War of Independence. All trough the night he watched the spectacle, and when the American flag was still flying over the fort in the morning, he wrote the text for the Star-Spangled Banner. The lyrics of the Star-Spangled Banner were later set to the popular tune "To Anaceron in Heaven" by the English composer John Stafford Smith, and in 1931 this version of the Star-Spangled Banner became the official national anthem for the USA.
