Jeremiah Clarke, English composer and organist, was born in London about 1674. He is best known for his composition of the “Trumpet Voluntary”, once attributed to Purcell. It forms part of a suite for  wind instruments with the original title “The Prince of Denmark`s March”.
Clark was a chorister at the Chapel Royal, in about 1692 he was organist at Winchester College and became vicar-choral and organist at St. Paul`s Cathedral, London in 1699. Though composing church music was his main occupation, Clarke also wrote odes for court occasions and other celebrations, songs for the theatre and the triumphal music to celebrate the Duke of Marlborough´s victory in the Spanish war of succession. His pleasing and tuneful style is best shown in the above mentioned songs and interludes for theatre. He is thought to have committed suicide in 1707 because of an unhappy love affair with a pupil.
