In addition to a successful career with Powderfinger, Fanning has achieved success with an award-winning solo career, which he embarked on while the band was on hiatus.
As the leader and primary songwriter of Powderfinger's music, Fanning is known as a musical political voice in Australia, though has indicated that he has no interest in entering politics. Fanning's musical styles have vary; Powderfinger's musical style is predominantly rock whereas that of his solo career is blues, roots and acoustic folk.
