Henry Purcell (RP:[ˈhen.ri ˈpɜː.sel] ; Westminster [?], Londra, 10 settembre 1659 – Westminster, Londra, 21 novembre 1695) è stato un compositore inglese d'età barocca. È considerato il più illustre compositore britannico di tutti i tempi.

Fra i grandi principi della musica barocca, di Henry Purcell si hanno scarse notizie biografiche. La sua stessa opera è sprofondata nell’oscurità per lungo tempo e solo nel XX secolo è stata riscoperta contribuendo a donare nuovo vigore alla scuola compositiva britannica.
