Boy Bands are a 1990s and later phenomenon although bands with just boys in have been around forever. Westlife indeed got together in 1998 and managed to last 14 years which is probably above the average for their type of group due to the often lopsided amount of talent amongst the group.
They were originally signed by the very ebullient Simon Cowell and managed by Louis Walsh so were in very good hands.
Image is everything and the boys use a stylist called Kenny Ho - who also looks after the Spice Girls and David Beckham.
They have been philanthropic in their time including releasing a single for Comic Relied and supporting UNICEF. They have performed for several charity events including in South Africa for The “Unite of the Stars” Gala Banquet charity, Sports Relief and Macmillan Cancer Support.
14 number ones and ten albums to their name, they were nicely successful until their split in 2012.
