Artist and Writer: Felix Mendelssohn (also known as Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy)
The Wedding March by Felix Mendelssohn, which is taken from “A
Midsummer Night´s Dream“. At the age of seventeen Mendelssohn wrote an overture to
W. Shakespeare´s “A Midsummer Night´s Dream“, which became the
best-loved of his orchestral works. No. 9 is the famous “Wedding March”, which must be Mendelssohn`s most
often played piece of music. The “Wedding March” forms the introduction
to Act 5.
Mendelssohn`s “Wedding March” is often played as a recessional in many English speaking countries. The Wedding March became popular at weddings when it was selected by Victoria, The Princess Royal, and oldest daughter of Queen Victoria, for her marriage to the Crown Prince of Prussia on 25. January 1858.
