Daniel is probably the most misinterpreted song by Elton John. It first appeared in 1973 in the album ‘Do not Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player', Bernie Taupin contributed the song's lyrics. The lyrics were often interpreted as the story of two brothers who fought in the Vietnam War. In reality, however, it is the story of an individual war veteran, who comes home to his farm after the Vietnam War, but there he finds no peace. Therefore, he eventually flees to Spain to find solace. Here is an excerpt from the lyrics:
