Somewhere Over The Rainbow is a ballad that was originally written and composed by Harold Arlen and EY Harburg for the movie ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Judy Garland, in the role of Dorothy Gale, sang the song. A few days after the premiere of the film, many renowned musicians such as Larry Clinton and Bob Crosby covered the song, Glenn Miller made it number one in the charts with his version of the song. But also other jazz stars like Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgeral, Eric Clapton and Keith Jarrett liked to cover the song, which had developed into a jazz standard over the years. Particularly popular, however, is the version by Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole, who plays a medley of two songs in his album ‘Facing Future’ (1993): Over The Rainbow and What A Wonderful World. His version of the song can regularly be found in the charts.
